The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Academic Transplant Infectious Disease Physician to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the worlds top 50 medical schools and as one of Canadas premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Infectious Diseases has over 30 Faculty members and provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton, and consultative services to Northern Alberta as well as western NWT and parts of BC. There are established specialty programs in Transplant Infectious Diseases, HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship as well as close relationships with Provincial and regional microbiology laboratories, and regional Public Health officials. Transplantation has a long-history at the University of Alberta and there is a dedicated Transplant ID service proving in-patient and outpatient consultation and longitudinal care pre-peri- and post-transplant. The focus is in organ transplantation and the clinical transplant programs perform between 250-300 transplant procedures per year in adults and children for kidney, heart, liver, lung. Pancreas/islet, and intestinal/multivisceral transplantation. The Transplant ID group is actively engaged in clinical and translational multidisciplinary research. The Division also boasts the first Transplant ID Fellowship Training program in Canada, actively training fellows since 2008.

Key accountabilities of the Academic Transplant Infectious Diseases Physician will include, but will not be limited to, clinical practice of Transplant Infectious Diseases, teaching of Transplant Infectious Diseases fellows, ID subspecialty residents, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees. The successful candidate will be expected to take on a leadership role in the recently accredited Area of Focused Competence (AFC) in Organ Transplantation. Clinical practice (minimum 40% effort) will focus in Transplant ID, but may include, and be not limited to, general ID consultation, ambulatory care (including OPAT) and equitable participation in Transplant ID after hours call. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in collaborative research in the field of Transplant ID.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

The successful candidate will be an MD with certification in Infectious Diseases with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The successful candidate will be expected to have a focus in education/teaching and be recognized as an excellent teacher and/or have additional training in Medical Education.
