Responsibilities/Duties
Alberta Health Services, Royal Alexandra Hospital, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from physicians with expertise in Addiction Medicine for a position on the Addiction Recovery and Community Health (ARCH) Team. The Royal Alexandra Hospital is an 895 bed acute care hospital that serves a diverse group of over 500,000 patients annually.
The ARCH Team is a multi-disciplinary consult service consisting of physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, addiction counsellors, peer support workers, and a pharmacist. The team provides management recommendations and brokered access to addiction treatment, recovery-oriented services, and social supports for admitted and emergency department patients with active substance use disorders. In addition to providing evidence informed medical management, the team also supports patients to stabilize their social determinants of health and is opportunistic about addressing other outstanding health concerns.
The ARCH Team physicians are on site from 0800 daily and provide on-call coverage until 2100.
Qualifications
An interest in the education of residents and students is highly desirable as the successful candidate is expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the appropriate department at the University of Alberta.
Candidates must be eligible for certification with either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada. They must also be licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Additional training or experience in addiction medicine is required. All applicants must have secured approval from the CPSA for opioid agonist treatment initiation.
