Responsibilities/Duties
Alberta Health Services, Royal Alexandra Hospital, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from physicians with expertise in Addiction Medicine for a position on the Addiction Recovery and Community Health (ARCH) Team. The Royal Alexandra Hospital is an 895 bed acute care hospital that serves a diverse group of over 500,000 patients annually.
The ARCH Team is a specialty consult service that provides treatment recommendations for patients with high risk substance use accessing the emergency department or admitted to the RAH. The ARCH physician completes patient assessments, makes treatment recommendations and provides ongoing patient care as needed. ARCH physicians supervise postgraduate medical trainees who are completing elective rotations with the team. ARCH physicians are part of a multidisciplinary team that includes social workers, peer support workers, addiction counselors, nurse practitioners and a pharmacist.
The ARCH Team physicians are on site from 0800 daily and provide on-call coverage until 2100.
Qualifications
An interest in the education of residents and students is highly desirable as the successful candidate is expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the appropriate department at the University of Alberta.
Candidates must be eligible for certification with either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada. They must also be licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Additional training or experience in addiction medicine is required. All applicants must have secured approval from the CPSA for opioid agonist treatment initiation.
