Fee For Service Position: Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist -Division of Cardiology

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant (AHFTx) Cardiologist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.

The University of Alberta's Division of Cardiology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state of the art facility that delivers tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan. The University of Alberta and Mazankowski Heart Institute are home to one of the premier AHFTx programs in the country with full service capabilities. As one of the largest Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) institutions in Canada we provide the breadth of cardiac care, including percutaneous, temporary and durable MCS, as well as complex, high risk cardiac surgeries and interventional procedures. The comprehensive nature of these programs allows us to offer a successful Fellowship Program in AHFTx. In addition, the Mazanlowski Heart institute is home to a renowned Heart Function Clinic, with broad expertise, including areas such as Inherited Cardiomyopathies and Cardio-Oncology. The Mazankowski Heart Institute is also unique by providing collaborative Pediatric, Adult congenital and Adult Cardiac Care with regular collaboration between Adult and Pediatric colleagues.

The successful recruit will join a group of 36 cardiologists including four other AHFTx physicians. In keeping with our vision statement of exemplary patient care, discovery and education; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop in a premier institution within an established and thriving AHFTx Team.

Key accountabilities of the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant position will include, but will not be limited to: Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant inpatient consultation, General Cardiology Inpatient service, Emergency Room Cardiology Triage, Heart Function Clinic, Outpatient General Cardiology and AHFTx Clinics, endomyocardial biopsies and right heart catheterizations and equitable share of Division of Cardiology undergraduate and postgraduate teaching responsibilities.

Additional Notes About Edmonton

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.


The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible to be certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. Furthermore, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have Specialty Fellowship training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation.


Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.
