Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) North Sector, in partnership with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a qualified full time Sub-specialized General Pathologist with sub-specialty expertise in Genitourinary Pathology with a solid background in molecular and clinical research in this area of specialty to join the APL Pathology team.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, with its team of 96 pathologists and many consultants, functions as a center of Excellence. The successful applicant will be involved in the diagnostic activity generated through the Northern Alberta Urology Centre of the Kaye Edmonton Clinic as well as other sites in the zone generating GU specimens, including frozen section practice. The successful applicant is expected to become an active zonal consultant and leader which will support all areas of genitourinary pathology, actively participate in and/or lead research in this sub-specialty practice, participate in the provincial sub-specialty practice group (SG) activities, and interact with the clinical stakeholders in their area(s). A genitourinary fellowship with molecular foundational knowledge is preferred for this position.

Through the University of Alberta significant opportunity to participate in clinical and basic research activities is available. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop an independent research program in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. Active participation in collaborative research activities across the University of Alberta Health Research Campus is expected. Our Hospitals serve as training sites for residents and students, and involvement in teaching and interaction with a wide range of learners from undergraduate through postgraduate studies, with provision of interactive educational opportunities at all levels is part of this role.

The successful candidate will have an appointment within the academic stream in the faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at a level commensurate with experience and productivity. Cross appointment in other related departments (e.g. Oncology or Surgery) and Research Institutes can be included with this appointment. Resources can be made available to suitable candidates to facilitate their academic integration into the current teams or establish their own program.

Minimum qualifications include a MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta with certification in Anatomic Pathology, Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology or General Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Pathology. Genitourinary Fellowship training with a minimum 2 years of subspecialty practice including participation in genitourinary research, plus a proven track record of collegiality and collaborative practice. The ability to multi-task and work in a face-paced hospital laboratory environment is a must.
