The Department of Anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine, Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone, invites applications for 1 Anesthesiologist at the South Health Campus in Calgary and the Calgary Chronic Pain Centre. This post has an Academic position at the Clinical Lecturer level with the University of Calgary.

South Health Campus is a newly developed, 270 bed tertiary care centre providing care to Calgary and surrounding areas. Sub specialty anesthesiology interests that can be accommodated include: thoracic, high risk obstetrics, acute pain, hepatobiliary, neuro, complex spines, and trauma. As a citywide department, there is also an expectation of work at chartered surgical facilities, as well as other acute care sites as required by the Section or Zone department.

This position, FTE 0.8, is joint between the South Health Campus, a Division of Anesthesia and Calgary Chronic Pain Centre. The split will be 0.2 FTE Anesthesia and 0.6 FTE Chronic Pain. The starting date for this position will be on or after July 1, 2023. (By negotiation). The successful applicant will provide Anesthesia care to patients at SHC, Calgary Chronic Pain Centre and at Calgary Zone Chartered Surgical Facilities, while working alongside a family-friendly and collegial department of 25 anesthesiologists who work cooperatively to facilitate work-life balance. There is an increased need in Anesthesiologist services to complete the therapeutic treatment to support the medical management of patients in a chronic pain setting and to liaison with community services.

The candidate will be encouraged to follow good professional and collegial behavior including but not limited to CME, Undergraduate and Postgraduate education, administrative duties, team work and simulation. The aim is all members should contribute to or support the academic mission of the department. There are department policies for equitable allocation of work, on call duties and vacation time.

The Calgary Chronic Pain Centre provides interdisciplinary pain care to a diverse population. The work expectations are to provide care in an interdisciplinary model, follow the processes of the Calgary Chronic Pain Program, reporting as per the recording practices at the Calgary Chronic Pain Program, attend physician meetings monthly, participate in educational activities (in both presentation and audience roles), participate in program development and evaluation, and participate in research activity. Interventional procedure time will be included.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be a qualified MD or equivalent, with specialist certification in anesthesia, and fellowship equivalency training in chronic pain and interventional pain management. The applicant must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta for independent anesthesia care.

The successful Candidate will have their FRCPC in Anesthesia (or equivalent); have demonstrated ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team; superior interpersonal communication skills; and a strong commitment to delivering innovative anesthetic care.

Candidates with established background in research, quality assurance and/or teaching are preferred.
Required skills interventional pain management. Desired clinical skills include POCUS, regional anesthesia, obstetric anesthesia, thoracic anesthesia, advanced pain management skills.

Desired competencies include Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Advanced Life Support.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, and must read, write and speak English.
