Responsibilities/Duties:

Covenant Health invites applications to join our senior medical leadership team asAssociate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) & Medical Director, Misericordia Community Hospital in a 0.40 FTE capacity.

Covenant is Canada’s largest Catholic provider of health care, with 26 Catholic facilities in 15 communities across Alberta. As a major provider in Alberta’s integrated health system, the Covenant family (Covenant Health, Covenant Care, and Covenant Living) works with Alberta Health Services and community partners to positively influence the health of Albertans through a broad range of programs and services in our hospitals, health centres and continuing care centres.

The ACMO & Medical Director will be a respected, practicing physician and a key medical leader within Covenant Health, who collaborates in developing and maintaining a skilled and educated medical staff aligned with the vision, mission and values of Covenant Health, and will facilitate engagement and integration of the medical staff into Covenant Health initiatives and decision making at both the local and broader level; and while doing so, will ensure Covenant Health’s strategic directions and values are considered in all decision-making.

The ACMO & Medical Director, will also develop and maintain a strong working relationship with their facility dyad partner - the Senior Operating Officer (SOO), Acute Services - collaborating with the SOO to facilitate physician participation in site service delivery plans and to establish and monitor compliance with budget, volume and quality of targets, including capital equipment for the site.

At the corporate level, the ACMO & Medical Director will develop and maintain a strong working relationship with their Physician Leadership Team (PLT) colleagues and will assist the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in establishing and coordinating an integrated medical presence for Covenant Health by:

  • Collaborating with the CMO, Covenant Health as part of the senior medical team;

  • Facilitating and encouraging robust and transparent communication channels;

  • Working with the CMO to develop and sustain effective on-site medical management structures;

  • Assisting the CMO in providing the administrative function for the Covenant Health Medical Affairs portfolio;

  • Linking the medical staff to the Covenant Health & AHS medical administration structures and initiatives;

  • Collaborating with AHS leadership with respect to zonal and provincial coordination of health services delivery and quality initiatives by maintaining effective liaison with Zone committees/councils and other site medical leaders; and

  • Facilitating site physician recruitment in partnership with respective Zone Clinical Department Heads/Zone Clinical Section Chiefs consistent with Covenant Health and AHS Bylaws and Rules.

Compensation:

Medical leadership stipend to be confirmed by the Chief Medical Officer & Medical Affairs.
