The position is critical to the coordination and organization of patient flow from Inpatient Psychiatry Services at FMC to outpatient services at the FMC Day Hospital (DH). The CMD in conjunction with their operations counterpart overlooks the everyday working of the FMC DH. The CMD liaises with psychiatric emergency services to help avoid inpatient admissions by redirecting to the outpatient DH; liaises with acute care inpatient physicians to similarly facilitate rapid discharge from the acute care setting into and outpatient setting thereby freeing up valuable inpatient space; works with outreach, PES, inpatient and DH teams at FMC to improve patient care and flow; helps to provide feedback to physicians, residents and allied health professionals when issues arise regarding patient care and flow.
