The position covers for a CMD whose LOA from Oct 12, 2022 to April 11, 2023. The Forensic Adolescent Program (FAP) offers specialized mental health assessments and treatment on an outpatient basis in a community mental health setting. Assessment services are provided within the City of Calgary and throughout southern Alberta. Treatment services are provided within the City of Calgary and to rural communities surrounding Calgary. The FAP CMD position is critical as it provides medical leadership within the program and coordinates with multiple external stakeholders including the crown prosecutors office and the courts.
This program consists of a multidisciplinary clinical team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, psychometrist and recreation therapists. Service is provided to adolescents between the ages of 12-18 years who are in conflict with the law and are thought to have mental health issues. Referral for assessment is Court Ordered while referrals for treatment are primarily initiated by probation officers.
FAP provides psychiatric and psychological court ordered risk assessments as regulated under the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada. Additionally, assessments may be provided for other correctional agencies and professionals who are dealing with youth in conflict with the law in order to facilitate decisions about treatment or rehabilitation services. In consultation with these agencies and professionals, treatment services may be provided by the Forensic Adolescent Program.
