Alberta Health Services in partnership with The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, is inviting applications for the Division Director of Cardiology and Facility Chief in the Department of Medicine to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital/Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

Cardiology at the University of Alberta and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is a world class group focused on ensuring excellence in clinical practice, research and teaching, is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state-of-the-art facility that provides tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan. The University of Alberta and Mazankowski Heart Institute are home to some of the premier programs in the country in the areas of Acute Coronary Syndromes, Advanced Heart Failure, Multimodality Imaging, Interventional Cardiology, Structural Heart Disease, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Diseases of the Aorta, Mechanical Circulatory Support, Cardiovascular Surgery and Pulmonary Hypertension. In addition, there is an increasing presence in Inherited Disorders and vibrant Cardiac Oncology program. The Mazankowski Heart Institute is unique, providing both Pediatric and Adult Care with regular collaboration with the Pediatric colleagues. The University of Alberta is also home to a highly successful post graduate Internal Medicine, Cardiology and several Cardiology Fellowship training programs.

The successful candidate will join a group of 36 cardiologists. In keeping with our vision statement of exemplary patient care, discovery and education; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop in a premier institution.

The Division of Cardiology boasts highly successful internationally recognized research in Acute Coronary Syndromes, Heart Failure, Pulmonary Hypertension, outcomes, basic and translational research. There will be ample opportunity to collaborate with the Canadian VIGOUR Center, cardiovascular basic science group and play an important role with the Cardiovascular Research Institute.

The Division Director/Cardiology Facility Chief is responsible for all recruitment, research, education, and clinical services of Cardiology at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. She or he is expected to be a leader who will further develop the Cardiology team to remain among the top groups worldwide and advance the clinical, research and educational mandate of Alberta Health Services and the Department of Medicine. The University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services positions will be co-recruited with anticipation that the successful candidate fulfills both roles, although the academic and clinical leadership positions may be filled by two individuals if that is the best alternative.

The Faculty of Medicine and Cardiac Sciences Clinical Department are seeking a dynamic, visionary leader who will be supportive of all elements of the Cardiology Team. The successful candidate will be an active advocate for the Cardiology group, and will be collegial and consultative in his or her leadership to drive educational innovation, maximize research output and lead clinical programs and strategic growth initiatives.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be recognized internationally through scholarly accomplishment in research and teaching, and will have administrative experience in an academic and clinical setting. He or she will be an MD (or equivalent) and eligibility for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

A contingent tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor within the Department will be offered to the successful candidate, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement.

Compensation:

Remuneration will be on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP), which offers a very competitive remuneration package with excellent benefits.
