Responsibilities/Duties:

Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health in partnership with The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, invites applications for an Echocardiographer and Clinical Cardiologist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.

The successful candidate will join a group of 36 cardiologists. In keeping with our vision statement of exemplary patient care, discovery and education, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop her/his career in the fold of a premier institution.

Key accountabilities of the Echocardiographer and Clinical Cardiologist will include but will not be limited to: Equitable ECHO laboratory service/afterhours ECHO call, Outpatient General Cardiology Clinics, Inpatient service, Emergency Triage, and equitable share of Division of Cardiology undergraduate and postgraduate teaching responsibilities.

The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute runs a state-of-the-art level 3 ECHO lab that utilizes all advanced echo diagnostic programs and procedures. The ECHO lab is integral to the Advanced Heart Failure, VAD and Structural Heart Disease programs. In addition, the University of Alberta and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute are home to some of the premier programs in the country in the areas of Acute Coronary Syndromes, Advanced Heart Failure, Multimodality Imaging, Interventional Cardiology, Structural Heart Disease, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Diseases of the Aorta, Mechanical Circulatory Support, Cardiovascular Surgery and Pulmonary Hypertension. Finally, there is a growing and vibrant Cardiac Oncology program. The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is unique in that it provides both Pediatric and Adult Care with full collaboration between Pediatric and Adult Cardiology colleagues. The University of Alberta is also home to a highly successful post graduate Internal Medicine, Cardiology and several Cardiology Fellowship training programs with Area of Focused Competency (AFC) accreditation in Echocardiography and Interventional Cardiology.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate shall have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she shall be eligible for certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. Finally, he or she shall be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have Level 3 Echo Fellowship training. Expertise in ACHD and structural/intervention echo is strongly desired.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which is assessed under a specific promotion process, separate from the academic pathway, through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Compensation:

Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule
