The Division of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta and the Section of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Alberta Health Services-Edmonton Zone are inviting trainees to apply for an 18 month locum to align with the Fellowship in Advanced Training in Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery, Microvascular Head & Neck Reconstruction commencing July 1, 2022 and ending December 31, 2023.
While the fellowship is primarily based out of the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH), the Division of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery in Edmonton provides comprehensive services for a wide geographic area for northern Alberta and neighboring provinces. The UAH is one of Canadas leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually from across western and northern Canada and offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized services within cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, renal critical care, emergency and trauma care, and a state-of-the-art burn unit. The hospital is also home to Alberta Health Services organ and tissue transplant program, which is recognized as a national leader in both success rates and transplants volumes.
This program is designed to be a mix of both clinical and research opportunities. Fellows will be expected to participate in regular new patient and follow up clinics as well as on-call services and emergency room consultations, based on the fellows interests and department needs. Scholarly activity is also expected, including basic, translational, or clinical research projects carried out with appropriate attending staff guidance. The individual will also provide locum-tenens coverage for the duration of the fellowship.
Selection criteria will include demonstrated interest in Oncology, clinical skills and experience, academic achievements, and must be accepted into the Fellowship in Advanced Training in Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery. Candidates must be eligible for specialist licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
