The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) in Edmonton, Alberta is inviting applications for a 1-year Fellowship Locum Regional Anesthesiologistposition atthe University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the worlds top 50 medical schools and as one of Canadas premier health-education institutions. With unified health care across the province, Alberta Health Services provides a patient-focused quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.

This position will be 0.5 FTE clinical time, with the other 0.5 FTE being dedicated to non -clinical work relating to their fellowship program. The Clinical component incorporates duties expected of the anesthesia staff at the University Hospital: anesthesia delivery in the operative setting, provision of outpatient clinic consultations, teaching of medical students and residents, and participation in the general on-Call rota.Successful applicants should have a strong interest and passion for regional anesthesia and demonstrated an interest in teaching and research in the past.

The University of Alberta Hospital is one of the leading centres in Canada in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. The Acute Pain Service group, an enthusiastic team of 10 anesthesiologists and 2 nurses, provide guidance and tuition in all aspects of Acute Pain Medicine, with an emphasis on ultrasound imaging for plexus and regional blockade. Many of our anesthesiologists teach or have taught ultrasound imaging at national and international regional anesthesia workshops.

Qualifications:

Applicants require an MD or equivalent degree and must have passed the Anesthesiology specialty exams of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent. Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the CPSA. This position is contingent on the applicant having applied and qualified for participation in an anesthesia fellowship at the University of Alberta. Remuneration for this position will be based on a fee-for-service schedule along with a Fellowship stipend from the University of Alberta.
