The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for a General Cardiologist /Educator to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and Mazankowski Heart Institute Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the worlds top 50 medical schools and as one of Canadas premier health-education institutions.

The University of Alberta's Division of Cardiology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state-of-the-art facility that provides tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan. The University of Alberta and Mazankowski Heart Institute are home to some of the premier programs in the country in the areas of Advanced Heart Failure, Multimodality Imaging, Interventional Cardiology, Structural Heart Disease, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Diseases of the Aorta, Mechanical Circulatory Support, Cardiovascular Surgery and Pulmonary Hypertension. In addition, there is an increasing presence in Inherited Disorders and Cardiac Oncology. The Mazankowski Heart Institute is unique, providing both Pediatric and Adult Care with regular collaboration with the Pediatric colleagues. The University of Alberta is also home to a very successful post graduate Internal Medicine, Cardiology and several Cardiology Fellowship training programs.

The successful recruit will join a group of 36 cardiologists. In keeping with our vision statement of exemplary patient care, discovery and education; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop in a premier institution.

Along with a leadership role in undergraduate Cardiology teaching, key accountabilities of the General Cardiologist/Educator positionwill include, but will not be limited to: General Cardiology Inpatient service, Emergency Triage, Outpatient General Cardiology, non-invasive testing, CPET, nuclear and/or echocardiography laboratory (if applicable) and equitable share of Division of Cardiology undergraduate and postgraduate teaching responsibilities.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. They will be eligible for certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, as well as be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The successful candidate will also have proven teaching success and show commitment to a significant component towards medical education. Additional certification in Echocardiography and/or Nuclear Medicine would be an asset.
