Responsibilities/Duties:

The Specialized Geriatric Services Program (SGS – Clinical Alternative Relationship Plan) in partnership

with Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for a Geriatrician / Care of the Elderly Physicians to join the Divisions of Geriatric Medicine / Care of the Elderly located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 3 million people. The clinical ARP is responsible for the equitable provision of Seniors Medical Services across the AHS Edmonton Zone.

A geriatric specialist is required at Westview Health Centre, based in Stony Plain. The successful candidate will provide 2-3 half-day outpatient clinics which can be flexibly arranged depending on the availability of the candidate. The service includes outpatient assessments, consultative services to local patients (and in the case of spare capacity, to Central Access referrals from Edmonton) in support of primary care. The post holder will work with the home care team to conduct assessments of frail and medically complex / vulnerable older adults as part of a multi professional assessment team.

This position is part of an innovative programmatic approach to the comprehensive provision of specialized medical services in the Edmonton AHS zone. This is an unrivalled opportunity for interested, engaged and enthusiastic physicians to take an active role in acute, post-acute, rehabilitative and community geriatric medicine services.

Post holders will be expected to participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate education and training programs of the joint divisions of Care of the Elderly and Geriatric Medicine and maintain adequate continuing professional development as dictated by their relevant governing body. Medical liability insurance will be required

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be accredited in either General (Internal) Medicine and Geriatric Medicine or Family Medicine with a Care of the Elderly certification (MD with equivalent qualification) and eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

This individual will take part in the teaching of undergraduate and post-graduate learners; therefore, the successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta.

Compensation:

Remuneration is competitive and based on a Clinical Alternate Relationship Plan.
