Alberta Health Services and the Cross Cancer Institute are inviting applications for a Gynecologic Oncologist position with a potential start date of July 2023.
This appointment will complement the current group of five gynecologic oncologists, our Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women on the Royal Alexandra Hospital campus and the multi-disciplinary Gynecology Tumor Team at the Cross Cancer Institute. Inpatient care and operating rooms are based at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. Outpatient clinics (new consultations and follow up/surveillance patients) and chemotherapy are based at the Cross Cancer Institute. Colposcopy clinics for oncologists are based mainly at both the Lois Hole Hospital for Women and the Cross Cancer Institute as well as some of our smaller community sites.
They will also have access to exceptional facilities, which include:
a) The Women & Childrens Health Research Institute (WCHRI), a partnership between the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, with financial support from the Stollery Childrens Hospital Foundation and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation. WCHRI is the only research institute in Canada and one of the few in the world, to focus on womens, childrens, and perinatal health (www.wchri.org).
b) The Lois Hole Hospital for Women (LHHW) is one of Canadas premier womens hospitals and busiest maternity centers with over 7000 deliveries annually focusing on high-risk obstetrics and maternal-fetal medicine along with specialized gynecological services and cancer surgery. Over 1000 gynecologic oncology surgeries are performed annually which includes robotic minimally invasive surgeries. The Lois Hole Hospital has a DaVinci robot dedicated solely to gynecologic oncology surgery and is used daily by the gynecologic oncology team. (www.loisholehospital.com)
c) The Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) is one of two tertiary cancer sites in the province and is the comprehensive cancer center for northern Alberta. CCI is a leader in innovative cancer research, prevention, treatment, and care initiatives across the province and beyond. CCI receives financial support from the Alberta Cancer Foundation funding exceptional research initiatives. Nationally eight percent of cancer patients participate in clinical trials. At the CCI, that number is nearly double at fourteen percent. The quality of our researchers and the data they generate demonstrates why the Cross Cancer Institute is considered a leader in clinical trials research.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a clinical academic colleague (CAC) appointment with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, University of Alberta through a separate application process.This clinical academic rank confers the privilege and responsibility of being a teacher for the University of Alberta. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology values their relationships with clinical colleagues, and recognizes the indispensable contribution they make to the academic mission. These contributions are made primarily through teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students, but also through clinical research, administration, and service to the profession.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant shall have or be eligible for certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Completion of a clinical fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology is required. Individuals interested in education of trainees are encouraged to apply. Training in minimally invasive surgery (including robotic) are desirable.
