The Departments of Medicine (http://www.departmentofmedicine.com) and Microbiology, Immunology & Infectious Diseases, in partnership with the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary invite applications for a clinician scientist position in Infectious Disease at the Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor level with specific expertise in infection prevention and control research.

The successful candidate will become the Program Lead of the Province of Albertas Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Translational Research Laboratory.The candidate will be responsible for overseeing real-time investigations of potential health facility environmental, water and air contamination intersecting with human ecology and physiology and associated impact on infection acquisition and transmission. Collaborations with clinical and other research programs on the pathogenesis of and prevention of health care associated infection using traditional or new and novel technologies is a core mission. The candidate will play an integral role in outbreak investigations and will oversee environmental surveillance, strain recovery and identification necessary for comparisons.In partnership with other experienced IPC physician leaders, the successful candidate will work with a highly skilled team of IPC practitioners, administrators as part of a province-wide IPC program. Mentoring trainees in medicine, applied sciences and health care epidemiology is a foundational endeavor. Working collaboratively and in parallel with site leads, and partners across the Province of Alberta is expected.The Infection Prevention and Control Translational Research Laboratory Lead portion of the role is equivalent to a 0.25 FTE.

The position provides up to a 0.35 FTE protected time for independent research with the potential for future expansion including a Tenure Track position.This is an excellent opportunity to develop and expand an independent externally-funded research program within an outstanding collaborative environment that is the University of Calgary.The candidate is expected to adhere to the Alberta Health Services Bylaws and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Code of Conduct.

The position will include a 0.4 FTE commitment to infectious disease clinical activities.Primary clinical responsibilities will at various times will include; providing inpatient infectious disease consultancy services, (including weekend & night call), practicing within a busy but highly effective outpatient antimicrobial treatment program and, working collaboratively with allied health colleagues and supervising and educating medical trainees.The ability to work collaboratively with other infectious disease/microbiology/clinical epidemiology colleagues is a must, and the successful applicant will be expected to be a regular contributor to ID section rounds and presentations.Remuneration will be via the Department of Medicines Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP). This funding is competitively valued based on the successful candidates level of experience (based on a formal pay level grid).

Qualifications:

Candidates must have evidence of strong clinical training and prior supervisory experience.The candidate must have evidence of significant academic potential (including a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed publications with the majority as 1st or senior author), excellent grantsmanship with the capacity to develop an independently funded research program and evidence of an emerging or established academic program of research.

Qualifications- The candidate will have exceptional communication skill and a passion for quality and patient safety. Candidates must be Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) certified, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
