The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with the Department of Critical Care Medicine and Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a position of Adult Intensivist to be based at the Sturgeon Community Hospital.

Located in St. Albert, Alberta the Sturgeon Community Hospital is a 169 bed hospital offering a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialty services within cardiology, medicine, obstetrics, surgery, gastroenterology, critical care, and emergency medicine.

Our ICU consists of 9beds - 6 vented beds and 3 non-vented beds - serving primarily medical and surgical patients. Specialized services including renal replacement therapy, inhaled epoprostenol, and proning are available in our unit. We are a closed unit served by 4 fellowship trained intensivists. There is full time coverage by a team of critical care trained Critical Care Providers. Daily rounding is supported by a full multi-disciplinary team including a dedicated pharmacist, social worker, dietician and rehabilitation support.

We are an active member of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alberta routinely participating in departmental research and other administrative activities. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canadas premier health-education institutions and has been internationally recognized among the worlds top 50 medical schools.

The successful candidate will be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an MD, FRCPC or FRCSC, possess a specialist certificate or equivalent in Critical Care Medicine, and be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

We are particularly interested in those with superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to function well within small teams. A demonstrated interest and commitment to the practice of community intensive care medicine is essential. Desirable skill sets include experience and/or additional training in point of care ultrasound, quality improvement, administration and medical leadership or research within a community setting.

Interested candidates are asked to submit a letter of application and current curriculum vitae outlining their clinical experience, education, three reference letters, and copy of CPSA practice permit or letter of eligibility

  • Compensation: Remuneration for ICU work will be through a clinical alternate relationship plan (ARP) funding model. At the present time, twelve weeks of ICU service per year will be expected with the possibility of increased service time as clinical needs dictate. Clinical service in base specialty is negotiable and will consist of fee for service billings.
