Job Details

In partnership with the Senior Program Director, Improving Health Outcomes Together (IHOT) and the Senior Medical Director, Health Outcomes, the Medical Lead will be responsible for consultation and engagement in support of initiatives regarding:

  • IHOT,
  • Appropriateness,
  • Quality improvement and quality literacy,
  • Targeted populations. and;
  • Other priorities which may be identified.

  • Available to for remote work
  • Remuneration is based on CMO Policy 01-01.


Engagement Strategy

  • In partnership with the IHOT leadership, the Medical Lead, clinical appropriateness develops clear direction for adoption of Clinical Appropriateness practices.
  • Identify physicians and physician groups to collaborate in enhancing clinical appropriateness across the health system.
  • Participate in an integrative and evolutionary clinical appropriateness change management approaches to organization strategy, priorities and performance planning.
  • Partner to define strategic outcomes measures that will influence desired transformation of culture, service model and service delivery.
  • Partner to inform and communicate cascading alignment of strategic outcomes measures and activities.
  • Engages with physician group regarding clinical appropriateness key functions such as audit and feedback, clinical decision, support, change management and monitoring.

Leadership and Culture

  • Lead strategic conversations towards optimal approaches to mobilize high-performing teams with health outcomes oriented, transformative and innovative programs of work.
  • Build strategic alliances with internal and external clinical, operational and corporate portfolios to optimize organization resource allocation, leverage maximal strengths and skills and maximize opportunity and minimizing risk.
  • Ensure transformational efforts facilitate the overall organization mission, vision, values, strategic goals, objectives and plan.

Relationship Management

  • Actively uses engagement methodology to maximize ideal participation of partners, stakeholders, frontline staff and physicians,
  • Regularly conducts feedback loops with key customers to understand if programs/projects are delivering desirable outcomes.
  • Balances the need for standard adoption and adherence with the need to adapt to local nuances.
  • Actively seeks opportunities to find hidden organizational talent and creativity.
  • Facilitate broad reaching connections to maximize potential outcomes.

  • Promote and iteratemodels of decision rights frameworks especially in support of frontline and local decisions in support of high performance.
  • Create system supporting mechanisms for easy adoption of leading practices and standards emanating from the work of strategic and clinical networks and other provincial programs.

A minimum of eligibility for medical licensure in Alberta, including certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Medical, or an equivalent professional body.
