Responsibilities/Duties:

Cancer Care Alberta, Alberta Health Services is accepting applications for a one year Locum Medical Oncologist at the Grande Prairie Cancer Centre (GPCC) in Grande Prairie, Alberta. A shared service commitment between Grande Prairie Cancer Centre (GPCC) and Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) in Edmonton is possible. The successful applicant will join a team of multidisciplinary cancer programs with Cancer Care Alberta medical oncologists currently working within the systemic treatment area and are involved in research, teaching and patient care.

GPCC is one of four Regional Cancer Centres within Cancer Care Alberta’s Community Oncology portfolio. Serving Northern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia, cancer care practice at the GPCC is centered on 7 major tumour groups, with rarer tumours managed in conjunction with consultation and expertise from the tertiary centers in Edmonton and Calgary. The GPCC location is currently within the Queen Elizabeth II hospital. A new facility is being built, and the successful candidate will have an opportunity to participate in the upcoming opening of the new GPCC within the new Regional Hospital in 2021. The CCI is a freestanding integrated cancer treatment and research facility that functions as the tertiary oncology referral centre for Northern Alberta. It has a strong record of basic and translational research as well as clinical trial activity in oncology.

Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta, is the largest northernmost city in North America with a metropolitan population of over one million, and steadily growing. Edmonton is a vibrant city that takes full advantage of the outdoors, in every season. The Rocky Mountains are close by and they offer a wide variety of activities.

Additional Notes About Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie is an ever-growing community, which serves a trading area of over 281,000 people. It is the youngest community in Canada, with an exceptionally low median age of 30.3. Located 460km northwest of Edmonton, and approximately 120km from the British Columbia border, this community is active and vibrant year round. Grande Prairie, otherwise known as “The Swan City” due to its proximity to the summer nesting grounds of the trumpeter swan, has plenty of outdoor activities, including music and film festivals, a large “Stompede”, an annual rodeo, and is surrounded by scenic parks and lakes.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include an MD, certification in Internal Medicine, special competency in Medical Oncology (or equivalent), and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

The term of this position is one year.

Compensation:

Cancer Care Alberta, Alberta Health Services offers an attractive compensation, benefits and relocation assistance package. The annual compensation will be calculated in accordance with the Cancer Care Alberta Physician compensation grid for Medical Oncologists ranging from $318,086.00 to $457,875.00. Grid placement will be based on qualifications, training and experience.
