Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology, invites applications for a fee-for-service Autonomic Neurologist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the worlds top 50 medical schools and as one of Canadas premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, University of Alberta is an internationally recognized team of academic and clinical neurologists with areas of excellence that include Neuromuscular Disorders, Stroke, Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, Cognitive Disorders, Clinical Neurophysiology (EMG and EEG), MS and Neurogenetics. The Division includes 32 full time Neurologists based at the University of Alberta Hospital and 30 community Neurologists based at the Royal Alexandra and Grey Nuns Hospitals, Edmonton Zone. The Division of Neurology members are appointed faculty to the University of Alberta with close ties to the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute at the University.

This position is to join a collegial group of hospitalists providing care to Neuroscience patients with ongoing complex medical needs. The Division of Neurology has a close and collegial relationship with NeuroMed physicians. NeuroMed physicians additionally provide crucial input in active General Neurology and Stroke Ward patients and often co-manage patients. The successful candidate will participate in timely, physician to physician handover of patients, participate in multidisciplinary rounds and all administrative meetings required of NeuroMed physicians and may participate in Neuroscience Rounds and other administrative meetings in the Division of Neurology and may participate in Neuroscience Rounds and other administrative meetings in the Division of Neurology. The successful candidate must have excellent knowledge and skills in neurology.

The successful candidate will interact with other divisions and departments in the hospital with professionalism and courtesy and must practice in a person-centered manner and communicate regularly with patients and families. Participation in education activities at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level may occur while attending on NeuroMed and is encouraged. The successful candidate must have primary residence in Alberta during the time of practice in NeuroMed.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
