Alberta Health Services and the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FOMD), University of Alberta are recruiting an ophthalmologist who has expertise in Uveitis. The Departments vision is to lead patient-centered eye care through outstanding and integrated service, education and research.

Job Description

Clinical Practice:Full time uveitis and comprehensive ophthalmology practice in a community-based setting

Surgical Practice:At the RAH, Alberta Health Services linked facilities

Call Responsibilities:Successful candidate will take regular on call responsibility within the Department call schedule.

Teaching and Research:There will be teaching responsibilities involving medical students and residents. Participation in uveitis-related research and acting as a mentor for various learners will also form an important opportunity for the successful

candidate. Teaching and research will be enabled through an appointment as Clinical

Faculty within the University of Alberta FOMD.

Committee Work: It is expected that the successful candidate will assist in improving the lives of patients, learners and ophthalmologists in Edmonton by volunteering to participate on a variety of committees.

The successful candidate will have medical and surgical experience and expertise in the identification, work up, and treatment of anterior and posterior segment uveitis including care of complex/advanced and urgent cases. He or she would be comfortable collaborating with other departments, such as Rheumatology, to help manage complex and resistant uveitis. The University of Alberta seeks a candidate with a proven track record of publication in peer reviewed journals. Research and clinical teaching experience is essential.

Applicants must be licensed in good standing, or eligible for licensure, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Candidates will have completed a residency in ophthalmology and a one-year surgical and medical glaucoma fellowship.

    The Department of Ophthalmologys Eye Institute of Alberta (EIA) is a Center of Excellence for all levels of ophthalmic care. It serves a population of over 3 million people in the Edmonton region, the northern areas of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan as well as the Northwest and Yukon Territories. The hub for the EIA is the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH).
