Palliative Care Consulting Physician Part-time Job

Responsibilities/Duties:

Palliative care consultations are provided by inter-professional teams consisting of physicians, advanced practice nurses and other team members and are delivered in various service sites such as Acute Care, Homecare, Hospices, Outpatient clinics and an Intensive Palliative Care Unit (IPCU). In addition, the physicians in the Service are encouraged to apply for an academic appointment in the Division of Palliative Medicine, Department of Oncology, and the University of Calgary. The Division is extensively involved in the program of Palliative Medicine education for medical students and rotating residents, offers a highly regarded palliative medicine residency, provides opportunities for teaching in other Faculties at the University of Calgary, and has many active opportunities to conduct research in Palliative Medicine.

The program provides services to 4 adult hospitals in Calgary (FMC, RGH, PLC, SHC); Palliative home care; Hospices; Tom Baker Cancer Centre; Outpatient clinics; Rural facilities and home care in Calgary Zone.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified physicians will have completed the CFPC (College of Family Physicians of Canada) Added Year of Competency training in Palliative Care or the RCSPC (Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Canada) Palliative Medicine subspecialty or equivalent education, or will have acquired several years of experience as a palliative consultant. An interest in leadership or research or education in Palliative Medicine would be an asset.   • The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • Must read, write and speak English.

Compensation:

Physicians who participate in the consult service group receive payment through a clinical alternative relationship plan (ARP) that has been negotiated with Alberta Health.
