Covenant Health, in partnership with Alberta Health Services are inviting applications for a Pediatrician to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team in the Foster Care Clinic at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. This is an outpatient clinical service offering specialist paediatric trauma informed consultation and an ongoing medical home for primary care. The aim is for children and young people to grow in resilience and break the cycle of intergenerational trauma.
The successful candidate will have responsibilities in outpatient clinical care while working with a multidisciplinary team (physicians, nurse practitioners, unit manager, RN, LPN, social worker, childrens services workers, child life specialist and admin support) in the Foster Care Clinic based primarily at the modern and custom-designed clinic space at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital.The candidate will be joining a well established and successful program and will share patient workload with an existing pediatrician in the clinic.
The program works in partnership with Childrens Services, to evaluate the physical, mental, social and educational needs of some of the most vulnerable children in Northern Alberta, using a trauma informed approach and incorporating the skills of all team members. This program provides a medical home for children in care, offering primary care supported by the nurse practitioners and secondary level pediatric developmental and mental health assessments. There are many interesting opportunities to contribute to case planning with childrens services and information to family court when required. Case conference is held once a month as an opportunity for the whole team to discuss complex cases for debrief and management and child psychiatry consultation is also available as required.
The program collaborates across medical disciplines and within multiple government ministries (Education, Justice, Childrens Services and Health). The program also provides education to medical learners at various levels of training.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
A thorough understanding of the developmental needs of children who experience physical and emotional trauma is essential. Training, experience, and expertise in the medical evaluation of physical and sexual abuse in children is an asset. Having a working knowledge of Family and Child Services is an asset. Familiarity with Connect Care is an asset. The candidate should have necessary interpersonal skills to successfully collaborate with academic and community colleagues. Applicants are encouraged to apply even if they dont have extensive experience in this area as there will be considerable support available from the existing staff.
Interested pediatric applicants must hold an MD, have accredited pediatric specialty training by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and be eligible for licensure with CPSA. The candidate must be certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
