Job Summary:

AHS is committed to providing services based on the population needs of AHS and promoting a shared responsibility for improved health.

The working title while providing Services shall be Provincial Medical Director, Referral, Access, Advice, Placement, Information & Destination (RAAPID).

The Contractor and Practitioner shall provide and be responsible to AHS and act in accordance with its policies, values and directions and shall work with the RAAPID portfolio, the Provincial Director and Manager(s) of RAAPID and to create and lead a creative working partnership in the portfolio. The Contractor shall be pro-active in the strategic development of ideas, projects and services which will assist AHS in becoming a national leader in the provision and measurement of safe health care through the services offered by RAAPID.

This position can be provided remotely from anywhere in the province.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

In a competent and professional manner, the Contractor and the Practitioner:

  • Reports to the Senior Medical Director, Provincial Clinical Programs and Virtual Health;
  • Liaises with all Zone Medical and Operational Leadership to continually improve and enhance RAAPID services.
  • Work collaboratively with the Provincial Director, RAAPID and the Manager, and the RAAPID operational leadership team when performing the following Services:
    • Provide medical leadership for the RAAPID Team to ensure quality care and patient safety are observed, and review critical incidences where this may have been compromised
    • Act as a point of contact for physicians for timely access to medical specialist consultations
    • Work in collaboration with the AHS Medical Advisory Board, Zone Clinical Department Heads, Zone Division Chiefs, Zone rural physician leads and the appropriate agencies external to AHS to achieve a consensus regarding the provision of medical consultative services for rural physicians facilitating care for rural patients in their communities
    • In collaboration with external stakeholders and the Virtual Health Team, identify opportunities and develop consultation services, and expanding virtual care integration in the province
    • Work in collaboration with the AHS Medical Advisory Board, Zone Clinical Department Heads and Zone Division Chiefs. Engage specialist physicians within the AHS urban and regional centres to be part of a singular network through the development of policies, procedures, algorithms and technology.
    • Work collaboratively with Zonal Integrated Operations Centre leadership (IOC) as it develops to ensure optimal, safe and effective patient care and flow
    • Work in collaboration with EMS to further integration of patient care and transfer in the acute care and repatriation phases of the patient journey
    • Identify and work in collaboration with other key stakeholder groups such as allied health, nursing in developing new service models utilizing virtual care
    • Identify opportunities for collaboration, evaluation and research related to RAAPID activities
  • Work with the analytics team to report on key performance indicators related to RAAPID activities
