Northwest Community Mental HealthClinic:NW Clinic offers services from 2 sites: Suite #380 at the Foothills Professional Building and the 3rd floor of 707 10 Ave site, S.W.
The 10th Ave siteis sharedwith the Adult Addictions team.
NW clinic psychiatrists provide psychiatric assessment, consultation and follow-up to the broad range of moderately to severely mentally ill clients. Most clients are voluntary although we also have some clients on Community Treatment Orders. We liaise with many other community programs such as Community Extension Team, Assertive Community Treatment team and the various programs on Unit 24 and the Foothills Medical Centre. Our Psychiatrists work within a multidisciplinary team environment. Most of our clients are co-managed with either therapists or RN case managers who will see patients regularly between psychiatrist appointments. Psychiatrists may also manage some clients via the Physician Only Stream, when clinically indicated.
NW Clinic has adopted Recovery Orientated principles, which emphasizes active movement towards recovery-based goals and facilitating effective transfers to community partners (e.g. GP follow-up and other services) when clients have stabilized or ceased to engage actively/effectively in services. We have worked with our community partners to enhance this process. NW clinic supports all Community Clinic redesign recommendations and Addiction and Mental Health Zone standards including a focus on time limited, change orientated, and goal focused care delivery with a case consult triggered review process.
NW Clinic FPBand 10th Ave site are located on leased sites. Staff and physicians support the AHS Working Alone policy. This policy indicates that clients are seen during daytime hours: 8 4:15. Given the NW Clinic has staff located on a satellite site (707, 10 Ave, SW)physicians would have to use Sunrise Clinical Manager (SCM) to document and review client services delivered. Phone and virtual consults are an option to consult with clinical staff located off site. Parking is not provided for physicians at NW Clinic sites and is available for a cost.
The NW Clinic multidisciplinary team includes mental health clinicians from a variety of disciplines (Social Work, Nursing, Psychology and Peer Support), and Independent Living Support (ILS). Our strongest need at this point is for psychiatrists interested in providing individual assessments and follow-up, primarily for cases co-managed with our therapist/case manager team. Psychiatrist participation in co-leading therapy groups (CBT Basics, DBT, CBSST,) has been welcomed in the past, and remains an option for a portion of the psychiatrist's involvement in the clinic.
Groups are offered at both sites and virtually. This position is ideal for a psychiatrist with a broad range of clinical interests and who appreciates working with a team of skilled mental health professionals.
