In the Calgary Zone, Psychiatry Primary Care (PPC) physicians provide medical co-management for patients admitted to Addictions and Mental Health (Psychiatry) inpatient services. Optimization of the medical care of patients with eating disorders has been identified as a top priority for the Calgary Zone. Working closely with members of the psychiatry team, including psychiatrists, nursing and allied health, the PPC physicians are responsible for admission history and physical exam, issue identification, development and implementation of a treatment plan, ongoing evaluation, and discharge planning. We pride ourselves in providing excellent patient-centered care for this population.

We are currently recruiting for 1 2 part time PPC positions at the Foothills Medical Centre. The eating disorders program will comprise of 2-3 beds initially with goal to expand in the future to 6 and later to 12 beds.

Physicians being recruited into these positions will be filling an identified gap in care for patients admitted to Addictions and Mental Health units. The PPC physicians will be managing the medical needs of these patients, working in collaboration with the attending mental health team. As this program continues to evolve, the clinical service delivery model will also continue to evolve. Clinical responsibilities for this position are to provide weekday coverage and mostly entails admission history and physical exams, as well as managing subacute and chronic medical problems. Clear documentation, communication and collaboration is required. Ultimately, the program will provide weekday and weekend day in-house coverage consistent with the PPC Scope of Practice.

Time Requirement:

0.1 0.5 Clinical FTE is anticipated. This may include after-hours coverage depending on the needs of the program

Eligible for licensure and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and CMPA

-Eligible for privileges within the Department of Family Medicine, Alberta Health Services

-Clinical excellence in the described role, with previous inpatient experience being an asset

-Excellent clinical, interpersonal and communication skills

-Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team setting to create patient focused solutions

-Current BLS, ACLS certification

-Desire to participate and contribute to quality improvement activities

-Will be required to attend an in-person interview with an interview panel and provide references upon request
