The Department of Oncology, Cancer Care Alberta, Division of Radiation Oncology at the Grande Prairie Cancer Centre (GPCC), with Alberta Health Services, is accepting applications for a full-time Radiation Oncologist position, to start by October 1, 2022, approximately in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

The GPCC in Grande Prairie is one of four Regional Cancer Centres in Alberta. Serving patients from Northern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia, the newly opened modern centre (December 2021) has 2 Varian TrueBean & Reg linear accelerators making radiation treatment available to patients in the North Zone. It is the first centre in the AHS North Zone to offer radiation therapy. CT planning and a full complement of medical physics, dosimetry, therapy and support services are also provided. Lung SBRT will be offered within the next 6 months.Cancer care provision at the GPCC is centered around 6 major tumour groups with rarer tumours managed in conjunction with consultation and expertise from the tertiary center - Cross Cancer Institute, Edmonton, Alberta. Regular tumour board and RT peer-review QA discussions occur locally and virtually with Edmonton.

You will be expected to participate fully in a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care at the GPCC and will join a team of Medical and Radiation Oncologists, Nurse Practitioners and medical support staff working in the North Zone.

The GPCC operates within a provincial framework for cancer care supported by provincial clinical guidelines and standards, focused on patient-centered care. Radiation Oncologists are expected to participate in local and provincial tumour team based activities including peer-review QA, annual, province-wide tumour team meetings, and local quality assurance or quality improvement initiatives and educational programs including supervision of family medicine and rotating radiation oncology residents.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will be expected to deliver excellent patient care and must be eligible for licensure in Alberta and must have obtained Fellowship in Radiation Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada by the time of appointment.
