The Department of Oncology, Division of Radiation Oncology at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (TBCC), with Alberta Health Services is accepting applications for a full time Radiation Oncologist.

The successful applicant will become a member of a multidisciplinary cancer program located at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Foothills Hospital site of the Calgary Zone and will join an existing team of 23 Radiation Oncologists, several of whom work part time. Experience in the management of head and neck cancer and lung cancer would be an asset.

Scheduled to open to the public in 2023-24, the $1.4billion Calgary Cancer Centre will be a leading health care facility, academic, and research centre that will provide cancer services for Calgary and Southern Alberta. The CCC will have 10 Linacs and 2 MR-Linacs at opening with a total of 15 vaults. There will be two MRIs dedicated for simulation and brachytherapy, as well as orthovoltage, a CT simulator, and a PET-CT simulator. Clinical radiotherapy programs at the current Tom Baker Cancer Centre including brachytherapy, SBRT, TBI, pediatric cancers and stereotactic radiosurgery will be transitioned to the CCC.

The existing TBCC is a full-service, academic cancer centre with 8 linear accelerators, orthovoltage and HDR capability. There are active gyne, prostate and breast brachytherapy programs. TBCC includes the provincial Alberta Radiosurgery Centre and expanding programs for lung, liver and spine SBRT. In 2021, faculty provided over 4800 consultations. There are close interdisciplinary working relationships with Medical, Surgical, Gynecologic, Hematologic and Psychosocial Oncology, Palliative Care, and Medical Physics. There are strong research links with the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute at the University of Calgary. A full complement of ancillary staff and services are available. Clinical trials and translational research programs are augmented by an annual, centre-specific, Investigator Initiated Trial grant competition.

The University of Calgarys Radiation Oncology Residency Training and post-residency fellowship programs compliment post-graduate training programs in Surgical, Medical, Gynecologic, Hematologic, Palliative and Psychosocial Oncology. There are opportunities to teach medical students, residents and fellows from a variety of disciplines.

Qualifications:

You must have an MD degree and Canadian specialist certification in Radiation Oncology, or the equivalent. You must be eligible for licensure as a specialist by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and for appointment to the medical staff of AHS. The successful applicant will be expected to obtain an appointment within the Department of Oncology at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Preference will be given to Canadian citizens or those with permanent resident status. Clinical and research experience in head and neck, and lung cancer would be an asset, but not essential.
