Senior Medical Director, Cancer Care Alberta Alberta Health Services (AHS) has a rewarding leadership opportunity as the Senior Medical Director (SMD) for Cancer Care Alberta. We seek a dynamic and innovative individual with senior leadership experience in clinical services and health care operations. This key leadership role works in a dyad relationship with the Chief Program Officer (CPO), Cancer Care Alberta. Together, the dyad will develop, establish, and maintain the operational strategic plan for provincial cancer care services, ensuring optimal program delivery. The SMD also consults with stakeholders and various senior departments across AHS and cancer care partnerships across the province. Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) has 17 cancer facilities and 2,365 staff and physicians across the province, supporting 182,000 people living with cancer with over 22,000 new cancer patients being diagnosed annually. Our new Calgary Cancer Centre is slated to open in 2023 and features state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, making it one of the most comprehensive cancer centres in the world. Reporting to the Vice President & Medical Director, Cancer Care Alberta Clinical Support Services & Provincial Clinical Excellence, you provide strategic leadership, together with Zone Clinical Department Heads, for over 150 physicians supporting cancer patients and cancer centres across AHS. This permanent position is a 0.7 0.8 FTE role, according to the preference of the successful candidate, and can be located anywhere in the province. Together, they help AHS deliver on its promise to develop strategies, methods, and incentives to facilitate innovation, advance priority projects, mitigate barriers, and resolve challenges while supporting implementation of cancer care programs across the province. The SMD will co-develop improved AHS policy frameworks, workforce plans, and supports to ensure delivery of cancer care services are provincially consistent yet tailored to each zones needs within AHS. Ensuring program objectives are met through monitoring and reporting on performance measures, the SMD advances accessible and quality patient-focused provincial health services in a sustainable manner. This role supports and coordinates research activities and agenda within Cancer Care, oversees clinical quality, patient safety, and clinical ethics activities, committees, and issues within Cancer Care and is accountable for the effectiveness of outcomes achieved. By developing and maintaining a strong patient/client-centered focus and culture and consulting with Medical Staff and various AHS committees, the SMD effectively advances the development, review, and implementation of Cancer Care clinical programs, policies, and strategies.

Qualifications:
A minimum of eligibility for medical licensure in Alberta, including certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Medical or Radiation Oncology, or an equivalent professional body. At least five (5) years leadership experience in health care operations including three (3) years experience in a senior leadership role in clinical services or healthcare operations. A minimum of 10 years experience in cancer care including at least three (3) years in leadership of cancer care within the last five (5) years is required for this position.Ideally, the preferred candidate will possess Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) credentials.
