This position is in Calgary, Alberta at the South Health Campus (SHC) Family Medicine Teaching Centre.

Assume the following responsibilities as Site Medical Lead for the Department of Family Medicine:

Reporting to the Director, Academic Patient Medical Home, Academic Family Medicine, under the delegated authority of the Academic Department Head and Zone Clinical Department Head of Family Medicine. The DFM Site Medical Lead will:

  • Support the goals and objectives of the Department of Family Medicine and Alberta Health Services.
  • Provide supervision of all site based physicians to ensure high quality medical care and professional conduct
  • Facilitate/participate as appropriate in the timely investigation and resolution of complaints and Patient Concerns and adhere to AHS Medical Staff Bylaws and as directed by the Director, Academic Patient Medical Home
  • Conduct annual physician reviews as delegated by the Director, Academic Patient Medical Home, through the authority of the Academic Department Head or designate
  • Perform physician Periodic Reviews as required by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws
  • In partnership with the Clinic Manager investigate and seek resolution to complaints, record the findings, make appropriate recommendations and provide documentation to the Director Academic Patient Medical Home, regarding clinical service delivery
  • Participate in and facilitate high quality teaching and learning of medical students, residents, physicians and staff
  • Lead and/or attend meetings as appropriate at the discretion of the Director, Academic Patient Medical Home

PMH

  • Participate in Departmental level strategic planning
  • Provide leadership and direction for their respective Department of Family Medicine Academic Clinical Teaching Site.
  • Ensure quality care, quality assurance and safety, optimal resource utilization, and excellence in communication.
  • Maintain healthy working relationships with key partners within the Department of Family Medicine
  • Participate in clinical service planning and PMH evolution.
  • Provide collaboration between the Department of Family Medicine and the Primary Care Networks to promote integrated care across the continuum
  • Participate in the development and revision of policies, procedures and guidelines relating to patient care and program service delivery
  • Ensure program resources are used in an appropriate and cost-effective manner

Quality

  • Collaboration with Academic Department of Family Medicine to lead and support ongoing quality improvement activities.
  • Review activity data and other evaluative data to improve service delivery, patient care and advance the directives of the PMH.

Other

Perform other duties as may be delegated by the Zone Clinical Department Head, Family Medicine and/or the Academic Department Head, Family Medicine and/or Director, Academic Patient Medical Home

Qualifications:

  • Practicing Family Physician with Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
  • Must be an existing Department of Family Medicine AMHSP member
  • Must be currently practicing clinically at a DFM academic teaching clinic
  • Must have leadership experience at one of the DFM Academic Teaching Clinics in Calgary
  • Academic Appointment with the Department of Family Medicine

The candidate must have or be eligible for General Register with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
