The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invite applications for the position of Thoracic Surgeon at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta. Qualifications include an MD and successful completion of the Royal College Specialty Certificate in Thoracic Surgery. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta.
The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of Thoracic Surgery and they will join a collaborative practice model, with the existing surgeons, to provide comprehensive care for thoracic surgery patients in Southern Alberta, excluding transplant surgery. This will include participating in on call duties as well as a central triage system of distribution of consults. The surgeon will have access to an onsite office and administrative support. Clinic and operating room time resources are shared equally amongst the group members. Acute care services will be provided, in the main operating room, at the Foothills Medical Centre with privileges at all Calgary Zone facilities.
The surgeon will be expected to have a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and to participate in the Royal College approved residency training program and associated committees. They will also be involved in medical student teaching. They will take on administrative roles and responsibilities in alignment with section needs.
