Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone, invites applications for the role of Zone Clinical Department Head (ZCDH), Family Medicine.

This 0.50 FTE position, governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports directly to the Associate Zone Medical Director (AZMD), Primary Care, Continuing Care, Community Care and Suburban Hospitals.

This position provides input into developing policies and criteria for procedures related to Family Medicine and reviewing and recommending privileges for family physicians working within the Zone.

The ZCDH for Family Medicine is a Senior Medical Leadership role in the Edmonton Zone; providing leadership support to the AZMD, supporting the vision of the Vice President and ZMD; contributing expert guidance and advice to matters within the Zone Clinical Department; and conducting rigorous performance management and quality improvement.

Programs/Sections within the Zone Clinical Department reporting to the ZCDH are:

  • Continuing Care and Seniors Health
  • Primary Care Obstetrics
  • Hospital Medicine
  • Academic Family Medicine
  • Community Family Medicine
  • Indigenous Health
  • Co-managed Surgical Care

This role has an expected start date of Aug 1st, 2023 and an expected term of 3 years.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, physician and stakeholder engagement, and a passion for quality and patient safety. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader, possess experience in medical leadership, and be considered a strong clinician by their peers. The successful candidate will also possess superior interpersonal skills and have demonstrated supervisory or management experience.

Candidates must be College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) certified, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.
