Alberta Health Services in Partnership with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is inviting applications for the position of Division Director & Section Chief, Maternal Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Located at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women in Edmonton. It serves a large catchment area and currently has a team of 9 physicians that work in a multidisciplinary setting. The Edmonton zone does approximately 17000 deliveries per year.

This 0.30 FTE position governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and the University of Alberta AASUA Collective agreement, reports to the Zone Clinical Department Head, Womens Health and the Department Chair, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

The Section Chief Maternal Fetal Medicine is a leadership role contributing guidance and advice for strategic planning, project development and quality care for patients receiving clinical care through the Section of Maternal Fetal Medicine. This medical-administrative leader will work with the medical leadership team contributing expert guidance and advice to matters within the Department of Womens Health; and conducting rigorous performance management and quality improvement.

This leader position is accountable for ensuring effective support at the site level for teaching and research, promoting educational programs and developing/promoting departmental research activities for Zone Clinical Section members and other staff associated with the Zone Clinical Section, patient safety, quality management and more. The role will also support recruitment and retention of physicians to the section, and liaise with Zone Councils and other site medical leaders.

This position also has a clinical component of care and expectation of participation in clinical service within the Maternal Fetal Medicine Section.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong skills in ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis.

This role has an expected start date of September 1, 2022. The section head role has an expected term of 3 years with a potential option for renewal. The academic division head role has an expected term of 5 years with a potential option for renewal.

The successful candidate also will be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Womens Health. The candidate will have a strong academic background with a track as a clinician educator or clinician researcher.

Candidates must be Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) certified, be eligible to work in Canada, and and hold or be eligible for unrestricted licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.Candidates should have accreditation in Maternal Fetal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training, and an academic background as a clinician educator or clinician researcher.

  • Compensation: Remuneration is in accordance with AHS contractor agreements for the section leadership. The successful candidate will have a contingent tenure track academic appointment with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The academic rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience as it relates to the divisional leadership role. Clinical activities are within a Clinical Alternate Relationship Plan (ARP) and the current FTE is a range of 0.2-0.5FTE to be determined.
